Operating a model railway is what I most enjoy. That is the actions that take place and the events leading to them. Most are straightforward and prototypical, nonetheless they still need to be done, as in the real world of railways, effectively, efficiently and in a timely manner. And there is quite an art in achieving that.  It is also most importantly fun.

Passenger operating is the arrival of a passenger train at the platform (and releasing a goods standing in the loop,) the loco taking off and attaching vans, running round, getting water and eventual departure. The horse box will be shunted into the Bay for unloading.

The mixed train of coach, parcel van(s) and empty milk tanks has arrived, the coach and van are left in the platform and the loco exchanges the full tanks at Hintock Dairies for the returning empty.

The late afternoon passenger train had attached at the Junction this NE fitted fish van containing  boxes of fish from Grimsby. It will be quickly unloaded at the platform by Mr Samways the local fishmonger and the van will return attached to the train and back to the NE. These returning empty fitted SR vans will be exchanged with the full fruit GWR vans to the left.

Past Hintock Dairies comes the afternoon GWR goods. It brings wagons to Station and Sheepcroft Yards.

These workings are straightforward and typical of everyday railway practice. Simple as they may appear at first sight they still require close attention to be handled in an efficient and timely manner.

Of course, there are innumerable variations in which these actions can be carried out.
